As a doctor i see so many people struggling with the effects of fear.
Anxiety and worry are the terms we use, but at the core is the presence of FEAR.
I have had so many patients go through myriads of medications, counselling and relaxation techniques to no avail. Some people have had some help to some extent, but most times there is still this underlying fear that is not dealt with.
While medications can be useful, it is so important to deal with the root cause so you can live free.
We were not made to live with fear, anxiety or worry of any kind.
We were made to enjoy peace.
A bit From My Personal Experience
I’ve known what it means to feel fear. I grew up with the fear of making mistakes, the fear of rejection, fear of not being good enough, the fear of being stuck in a location i could not get myself out of, we call this claustrophobia medically. Fear showed up in many ways and would cause panic occasionally.
If you know me now personally, you would know that the above description does not sound like me today, whoop! Praise God! and that’s because I am nothing like that anymore. I found the antidote to fear!.
- Know and Believe The Love of God: 1John 4:16 kjv. Let this consciousness of His Love influence your thoughts. Ask youself If he loves me, and he cares for me, why should i fear? why would i fail? You have got to condition your mind to the knowledge of his Love. Your heart may believe it, but does your mind know it?
- Cast your cares He cares for you:1 Peter 5:7 . You have got to actually believe this scripture. I read it many times in the past, but began to believe it only later. If you have been told you have got a generalised anxiety disorder, you can start now to condition your mind to knowing he really cares and allow him care for you. Your worrying never got you an extra heartbeat did it? Let God carry your burdens.
- Know God never leaves you: Hebrews 13: 5-6 Right now, in this moment, while you are reading this, if you are God’s child, His Spirit is right there with you. You are never alone. What a beautiful thought. This is for life and eternity, so you and i can have absolutely no fear for today or tomorrow.
- Face the Fear: Whatever has held you back and caused you to fear is something you have got to face. When you have taken the first 3 steps, and assured your heart with God’s word about his love and care, go and face the fear. You can do this one step at a time, one day at a time, or take the whole thing in one go and JUST DO what you could not do.
Facing The Fear, Breaking the Cycle
In those first few moments you will feel lots of physical symptoms, you may feel your heart beating fast, your tongue going dry, like you are going to pass out and this is if you get panic attacks, but i promise you, if you stay put with your mind focused on God’s love, and your lips moving declaring his love, and you just talk to him through the phase, slowly your mind will get the message, and as you persist, you’ll find that the fear will begin to loose its hold. Remember the presence of God never ever, ever , ever, ever, lives you if you are his child. Soon enough those same stimuli will no longer cause the same responses in you.
If you are the worrying type, just face the fear of letting go of worrying. I know you might feel like if you do not figure it all out, your life will fall apart, that was me before, but i tell you God has super better plans, you’ll be in awe. Take captive thoughts that lead you into worry mode. Just stop them and by faith believe that God has got this. Focus on thinking thoughts that are screened by Philipians 4:8. As you see him come through for you, you’ll begin to rest more in his love.
Have you faced fear in anyway? What were your struggles? what were your successes? I hope you are encouraged knowing that you can live free from fear and float freely in God’s ever abundant love and promises.
Please comment, I look forward to hearing from you.

Great article Dr Nkiru, thank you for sharing your experiences. I am also greatful for the journery God has taken me to get over the fear of people; what they think and how I come across. Being confident about God’s love for me as I am has helped me to know that only His opinion matters. Useful to get feedback from others but I cant control what anyone does or thinks! #NOMOREFEAR

Hi Von, you are so right, only God’s opinion matters and that gives us the freedom to be all he has made us. You are also very right that we cannot control what people do or think, but we can control our response! Love you sis.
